Previous to forming their own company, Phil & Matt worked together for over 15 years for a Warrington based Japanese vehicle importer, that also specialized in LPG conversions. It was over these 15+ years the pair began to build their extensive knowledge of not only Japanese vehicles from a repair and conversion perspective, but also the entire vehicle sourcing and importing process from Japan. It was during this time that the pair observed the trend of UK consumers shifting preference to low mileage vehicles from Japan, particularly towards a select number of models of vehicles that were not offered in the UK; notably the Nissan El Grand and the Toyota Alphard. Both of these models were popular stock for the import specialist and offered a fantastic platform to convert to LPG for reduced running costs and reduction in CO2 emissions. These particular models proved to be high quality, reliable family & touring vehicles, enhanced by their low mileage and care by the original Japanese owners (without salted roads in the winter in most parts of Japan!), much more so than equivalent UK vehicles.

Matt & Phil quickly became first handedly experienced with these models in particular, building up years of knowledge of any common problems, issue resolution and parts sourcing. Working on these vehicles day in-day out lead to them being able to support with trained & educated vehicle sourcing strategies, and the ability to resolve any issues with ease and cost/time effectiveness. The duo also began to build up their industry network in the UK and in Japan for vehicle sourcing contacts via the Japanese auction systems & vehicle shipping & clearance companies, and in 2011, it was an easy decision for both to agree to go it alone and set up their own shop.

Phil and Matt, who are both time served automotive technicans (Phil with a career in automotive mechanical repair, and Matt specializing in automotive electrical system installation & repair) formed a business model that leveraged their experience of the Japanese Import Market, but also the LPG installation business, and quickly found their customer base expanding. Phil and Matt were able to hand select vehicles from Japanese Auction, aided by their partners and inspectors on the ground in Japan to ensure only very high quality, damage free, low mileage vehicles were sourced. Customers were able then to chose to have LPG conversion systems installed upon arrival into the UK, in one seamless customer experience. Alongside the vehicle importing side of the business, the couple also offer LPG repair & diagnosis on any LPG converted vehicle, in addition to routine maintenance, servicing & maintenance at their workshop in Trinity Court.

Wind forward 11 years, the LPG & workshop services of Gastech Warrington LTD remain strong, and with the growth of the business on the importing side, Matt & Phil decided to found their sister company; Gastech Imports LTD, to enable them to more efficiently & professionally advertise & market their vehicle import & preparation services, offering their customer base an improved vehicle selection & purchase experience, in a vehicle dealer like environment.

The new company offered a platform on which Matt & Phil could invest in new bespoke vehicle advertisement software. The system upgrades have supported the growth of their vehicle importing side of the business, which now sees 10 to 20 fresh handpicked, high quality stock arriving to their showroom every month. The ever-increasing popularity of the Toyota Alphard here in the UK (Matt & Phil’s core focus model) is justified due to the quality of Toyota’s engineering and build quality, enhanced further by the opportunity for customers to not only upgrade to an LPG system, but to have genuine & high-quality aftermarket upgrades offered; such as in-car entertainment units, parking sensors, reversing cameras, and even full camper van conversions.

In addition to new purchases, the business offers a range of aftersales support for their new and returning customers, MOT, Servicing, Detailing, Warranties & Part Exchange. With such a high turnover of stock, and with Matt & Phil examining and converting each for UK road use, they have built up an inside-out expert knowledge of the vehicle. This level of knowledge of the vehicle has been accumulated over the years by experiencing and solving any and every issue possible on these vehicles, and of course by trial & error of diagnosis and replacement processes. Understanding the common faults and knowing the best course of action is second nature, and aided by their ability to source the highest quality repair parts direct from Japan, or from the UK; knowing what parts work well & what parts are best to avoid is essential in maintaining the legendary Toyota reliability.
